Grammar School in Brighton VIC
The topics were, ‘That business and education should be reduced to a 4 day working week’ and ‘That parents should provide their children with pocket money’ . Best speakers were awarded to Liam Krastich, Caleb Arceri, Ben Collard and Angus Naughton. The boys did a fabulous job representing BGS and it was a great experience for all involved. Teachers must like boys, as approval is at the heart of working successfully with boys.
Congratulations to these students who were awarded Summer Sports Colours at yesterday’s assembly. This is particularly true for young boys in school who are looking for guidance and mentorship to help achieve their personal and academic growth, so they become the best versions of themselves. Congratulations to Leo Grollo who took out first place for the second consecutive year in the Division 2 Slopestyle at the Victorian Interschools Snowsport championships with a dominant 20 point lead. Leo is also through to Nationals with BGS Teams for Moguls and Ski Cross. Thanks to Mark George for his event organisation and acknowledge Darran Goodger’s enduring dedication to athletics.
Peter’s association with BGS dates back to 1964 when he completed his teaching rounds at the School. Since then, Peter has been an invaluable member of the Development Office team as Bequest Manager. After 58 years of dedicated service, Peter Toms OAM has decided to retire from Brighton Grammar at the end of this month. Check the stats for five school categories - independent, catholic, public, selective and all schools by visiting the mean and median percent of scores of 40 and over. Early on Saturday morning last weekend, I unexpectedly woke up at 5.30am, unable to get back to sleep, and so decided to put on some warm clothing and go for a walk to the top of a local lookout.
This year’s Mother’s Day celebration at school provided the boys with a very special reading experience. With their mums by their side, each boy created a wonderful poster that displayed images and information based on an imaginary book character that had evolved from the boy’s favourite book character, and his mother’s favourite one. Our boys have not only embraced the array of reading opportunities offered to them, but most importantly their understanding of the significant value of reading has continued to grow. They are becoming more aware that those individuals who have a love of reading can potentially have a big advantage in life.
Last week, my family travelled to AAMI park, so as to watch Germany and Morocco play. Join us on 25 August at the iconic Rosstrevor Theatre, where the magic unfolds at 7.00pm sharp. Bring your friends, family, and dance enthusiasts alike, as we celebrate the remarkable achievements of our BGS boys. Since its inception in 2022, our dance program has flourished, igniting a fire of passion and confidence in our boys that is second to none. Prepare to be amazed as they unleash their creativity, skill, and boundless energy in an array of electrifying dance styles. Tonight will be the first evening of our Parent Teacher Student Discussions.
This inspirational group of young men serve as role models for current students to aim and extend their own academic reach. On the final day, the boys set off to the site of the APS final, Lakeside Stadium. The first week of the holidays saw the athletes head down for the annual Athletics camp at Queenscliff in preparation for the upcoming competitions. “This tour continues the successful legacy of Australian Schoolboys Rugby teams which have toured internationally since 1969, teams which produced over 200 Wallaby representatives. These tours represent the pinnacle of each boy’s rugby experience developed through Australia’s internationally recognised school rugby system. They offer the boys the highest level of international competition, team building, cultural experiences and the unforgettable life experience of representing their country in sport,” said Kevin Culliver, President of the ASRU.
His work focuses on educating and training professionals about male mental health needs as well as how to work more effectively with boys and men. The Winter Appeal is on this month as boys raise money to support those in need. All boys are invited to not only donate but to experience what it is like to live rough at the Winter Sleepout on Friday 18 August. These areas sit alongside our awarded professional learning and instructional coaching programs spearheaded by our Crowther Centre. They know to get the best outcomes for every boy you really need to know the students and so part of the role is to also be actively involved in cultural, pastoral, and sporting aspects of the School. Our teaching staff are widely respected for their deep understanding of boys’ education.
They leave Haileybury as well-rounded young adults with a love for learning, prepared for life on the global stage and with the drive to be active and contributing members of society. This approach is particularly effective for repetitive skill-based learning. We recommend these programs particularly for beginner and intermediate levels.
Well done to Terry Ji and Waters Zhang who qualified for the final rounds in the fast response category. Jasper Mace, Lenny Lui, Kyle Wang, Roy Gu, Max Liu and Tom McLean also performed well. It was a wonderful opportunity to represent BGS and showcase their skills in the subject. Congratulations to our champion mathematicians who competed in the Mathematics Association of Victoria Year 5 Maths Games Day at Penleigh and Essendon Grammar last week. They enthusiastically took part alongside 132 students in a series of maths challenges including problem-solving, automatic recall and strategy games.
Good nutrition is eating a variety of foods and is especially important for young children to provide extra nutrients for growth and development. It is important to give preschool children a good start to healthy eating to form lifelong eating habits by school age. Craig Marais, an Australian hockey player, has emerged as a prominent figure through his unwavering dedication, hard work, and undeniable talent. Recognized as a child prodigy from a young age, Marais quickly captured attention with his exceptional skills and determination on the hockey field. Further than the overall COVID-19 crisis there were outbreaks in several states and territories in the lead up and in the end only Victoria was able to travel.
Please view Term 1 calendar for their holiday camp programs for details. The goal is to encourage everyone to appreciate and celebrate differences and promote a sense of community and belonging. To read more, see the link below for suggestions on how parents can engage their children in discussions about diversity, inclusiveness and multiculturalism. I urge you to take to the sidelines this weekend – whatever the sport – to support your son and motivate him as he strives for his best.
