Morocco Desert Camping: 9 Luxury Sahara Desert Camps You'll Love

To make this job easy relying on the tour companies is recommendable. Also as per your preference you can opt for private or main camps. As soon as you enter the desert for 10 minutes by dromedary, quad, or jeep, you are in the middle of the meter-high dunes. The camp we stayed at was so luxurious and more than we ever could have hoped for! This was one of the highlights of our trip to Morocco and we will never forget it! For me experience we drove to the desert and I don't remember it being boring or anything. We stopped off at places along the way and I remember the journey being really enjoyable. Maybe see if you could do a helicopter one way and a car transfer the other way? I'd also stay in Morocco for the whole holiday - there's loads to see and do in Morocco and it's such a gorgeous country.

I had a similar experience in Jaisalmer, India and was lucky enough to be one of two people at the camp. We didn’t even have a tent, though, we each had blankets and a pillow and slept on the sand! A holiday in the desert is not complete without some Saharan adventures and activities. Close to the well-known town of Merzouga and the oasis village of Hassilabied is Erg Chebbi.
We drank lukewarm weak coffee, ate rusks, and packed our backpack ready to trek on our camels. We cuddled under the stars and stared up at the milky way. The stars were so bright as we were in complete darkness, and it was strangely silent (except for the odd camel fart much to Julian’s delight).
We used the time to take tons of photos for our blogs and social media. Luckily, the staff was very accommodating to us moving around their tea sets, lanterns, pillows, and even camels! They allowed us to bring a lovely small camel out to take photos with.

We are only a moment in time, an ephemeral blink of an eye. Both options are available and recommended, we advise you to stay at the luxury desert camp in winter mostly if you are traveling with kids. For a more authentic experience, staying at the nomad camp is definitely a great way to get a taste of nomad life.
This desert is made up of dry and arid hills and does not have the majesty of the Ergs. Many, if not all of the hotels in Merzouga, can organise one night desert tours and desert safaris and your perfect Sahara tour can easily be tailored by the entrepreneurial guides of Erg Chebbi. Despite this, I’ve never been to the desert without drawing strength from weakness. Contemplating how the mountains of sand, gradually and subtly, turn reddish, should be top priority for every traveler. In any case, there are alternatives, such as getting to the camp in a 4×4 (for which we’ll probably have to pay extra) or, simply, walking alongside the camel. It’ll be an experience somewhat similar to a walk on the beach, although the terrain is more rugged and the sand is finer, so that your feet will sink more.
The desert camp is really intimate, with only six tents available and one large communal tent for meals, making it a great large for an incredible experience that is personalized to your exact liking. The tents also have beautiful windows so you can view the dunes at sunrise without ever needing to get out of bed — pretty amazing. In terms of inclusions, each Sahara Desert glamping destination is different.
There were a few people offering 2 day/1 night tours from Marrakech, but that is the only one other than the 3/2 that I remember. Our tour company didn’t have us bring anything except a small bag with a camera/contact case/jacket/water in it for the overnight part of the trip. The water was especially important, because there was no water source at the camp. Merzouga Luxury Desert Camp was such a great surprise during my time in Morocco. I didn’t know what to expect going into the experience, but I loved it!
