Products Of Taiwan You Need to Try

Since then, dragon boat racing has been carried out on this day and rice dumplings are also eaten. Few tourists ever make it out this way, so try this night market out for an off-the-beaten-track and Southern Taiwan vibe. No scooters or traffic to worried about inside the night market is another plus. Yizhong Street Night Market (一中街夜市) is a more centrally located Taichung night market. This one is Taichung’s hippest night market, so I would compare it to Ximending shopping district in Taipei. High mountain oolong tea refers to the oolong grown at least 1,000 metres above sea level.
Chulu Ranch is located on a high plateau, with a small slope, good drainage, mild climate and abundant rainfall, so the grass grows vigorously and can supply green-cut grass all year round. There are also hay making areas, green mowing pasture areas, grazing feeding areas and forest 剝皮辣椒 trail areas, where you can get close to nature, enjoy the tranquil and natural wilderness scenery, and relax. In  addition, the camping area, product sales department, pineapple garden, tea garden, betel nut garden, loquat garden and bamboo forest are suitable for camping.

The Green Island Lighthouse is located on the northwest headland. It is a pure white straight-shaped building with a height of 3.3.3 meters. The construction of the Green Island Lighthouse was due to the American cruise ship "Hoover" hitting a reef and sank near Green Island in December 26th of the Republic of China. City Super is the nicest grocery store / supermarket in Taichung in my opinion. It’s got the biggest selection of imported goods in the city. Stuff is expensive, but quality is unbeatable, especially for the veggies and deli items.
You can also look into Global Tea Hut, which offers meditation & tea sessions and some informal teaching about tea history and culture. The “liquor” from this first round is then poured into the cups and then discarded into the tea tray, which typically has drainage holes. This is done to warm the cups, and after the tea is discarded, drinkers can stick their noses into the empty cups to experience the tea’s aroma. The main purpose of rinsing the tealeaves is to get rid of the bitterness. It’s a little tricky to find the first time you go, but once you know the way it only takes about 40 minutes to get there from Maokong station, taking you past a number of tea fields. If the crowds are too long for the gondola, just hop on a bus across the street to get to the top in minutes.
Tsutaya Bookstore is my new favorite place to shop for books, as you can grab a few, and bring them over to the cafe to browse them quietly at your own pace. The selection is not huge, but the place is so nice that it’s worth a visit even if you don’t find anything to buy. Great spot to take pictures, as the design and architecture is top. Lihpao Discovery Land in Taichung has a dizzying one for you to conquer. Enter The Stinger, a roller coaster that’ll have you suspended 90-degrees in the air before dropping you into a tunnel.

Brown Avenue has a wonderful view, and the charm lies in the vast rice field scenery, the rice ears swaying in the wind, like the waves crashing, it is an unforgettable scenery. "Lanyu is beautiful, we used to be faster than other counties and cities from Pingtung, my husband likes fishing, so we often go there... in Lanyu can be very relaxed, like everything here.." If you’re looking for high-quality jade, which is one of the most popular item to buy as a gift in Taiwan, head to the new Jade Market, in Nantun District.
Recent decades have seen a growing recognition around the world and by Taiwanese themselves of a national cuisine that is distinctly Taiwanese and is as innovative as it is true to its complex past. Much of this innovation has taken place on the streets, thus it on the streets that you’ll find the true taste of Taiwan. As a nod to Taipei 101, Taiwan’s most iconic landmark, I’ve compiled this bucket list of 101 Taiwanese street foods, spanning all corners of the country, from Taipei to the offshore islands. Here you’ll find one of the most beautifully preserved traditional mansions in Taiwan. The sight is divided into three sections; a lower and upper compound that were occupied by two branches of the family, and a lovely garden (search for Lai-Yuan of Wufeng’s Lin Family or 霧峰林家萊園) a few steps away. For now, you’ll need to take a bus or taxi, or take the regular TRA train to Daqing Station and then connect to the green MRT line there.

On our way from Taitung to Hualien, our tour guide dropped us at this shop to try the Annona squamosal. During our stay, several cars dropped by and buy their fruits. It’s an ok night market if you’re not expecting something bigger. Whether you rent a car for a Taiwan road trip or plan to use Taiwan’s extensive train and bus network, the East Coast National Scenic Area is definitely the most beautiful natural region in Taiwan.
Some rows are left in their dilapidated condition and are a magnet for photographers. Rainbow Village is a courtyard home in a military dependent’s village originally built to house KMT soldiers from China. Most of the community was abandoned, but one ex-Chinese soldier, Huang Yong-Fu, refused to leave. To convince the bulldozers to stay away, he began painting the walls of his home in psychedelic colors and designs.
Some people would call it a beer house, but it’s more like a “kuai chao” or “re chao” which means hot stir fry.It closes at 2am. Chiayi is more or less right along the Tropic of Cancer, so the gardens have served as experimentation ground for forestation experts. Chiayi is definitely not the first stop tourists make in Taiwan, but it can offer an endearing look into what life is like in the island’s south without the cosmopolitanism of places like Tainan or Kaohsiung. It may not offer a huge number of options, but it’s definitely worth more than just a stop-over on your way to Alishan.I personally think that it’s without a doubt Taiwan’s most underrated city. I consider myself to be a massive Taiwanese food enthusiast,  and I will eat everything, but there are items here that even I have never tried.

Another exciting aspect of visiting Alishan is riding the small gauge railway from Chiayi, but beware that part of the railway is out of operation since it was damaged by a typhoon. Note than there is a small entrance fee to Alishan, which you can pay online in advance with this deal that includes a famous lunch box en route to Alishan and an electric bus ticket to the sights in Alishan. Taiwan’s most famous tea, Alishan High Mountain Oolong tea , is mainly grown around the villages of Shizhuo and Fenqihu, near the end point of the Chiayi to Alishan small gauge railway. Head to the central mountains to see snow in a subtropical country, find out where the best oolong tea in the world comes from, or see sunrises over seas of clouds.
On the cliff beside the cave are inlaid traditional handmade pottery figurines depicting biblical stories, which is a manifestation of the craftsmanship of the Yami people. Just after Highway 11 reaches the coast, you’ll reach Farglory Ocean Park, the largest of Taiwan’s theme parks that has a marine focus. Although it’s not my cup of tea, and I’d rather sea dolphins in the wild such as on this dolphin and whale watching tour, Farglory is quite popular. You can also visit Luye byin a half day or or full day trip private car trip from Taitung, or as a part of this day tour.

New Taipei City is the epitome of Taiwanese culture from the urban districts of Banqiao and Xinzhuang to the more laid-back Tamsui and Wulai. Baseball was brought to Taiwan by the Japanese during the colonial period. Its popularity rose greatly when the Taiwanese baseball team finished second in the Japanese national championships. Today, baseball retains a strong following and remains by far the most popular team sport in Taiwan. Several Taiwanese players have also gone on to successful careers in the US and Japanese Major League Baseball and the Taiwanese national baseball team is considered to be one of the strongest in the world. Legend has it that on this day, a woman known as Chang E swallowed some divine pills to prevent her power hungry husband from becoming immortal.
