Duffy’s 2008 single Mercy was one of the tracks from her debut album Rockferry. This ’60s-sounding retro-soul tune peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart in February 2008, remaining atop the charts for five weeks, and became the third-best-selling single of 2008 in the UK. Welsh singer Duffy has a wonderfully distinctive voice, but fans seem to think that in the line ‘I’m begging you for mercy’, she’s singing ‘I’m begging you for birdseed.’ Hey, there’ll always be a demand for it from someone.
Jacob Colon presents a new hard-hitting Tech House track titled ‘Down Wit The Beat’... With both a mysterious and daring vibe, ‘Heat’ brings the dance floor temperature up, while displaying Jacob Colon’s sound and style in full force. Male rap collectives are easy to recall but even dedicated hip hop heads have to search a little harder to find joints with an all-female lineup. But hey, now we’ve dug a lil deeper so you don’t have to. In doing so, people may anticipate the effects of algorithms in ways that modify their use of MSPs (Freeman et al. 2022; Haider and Sundin 2021), as well as train others to do so further feeding this perceived diversity bias.
Ahead of his third vinyl release, I caught up with Arnaud to discuss the dubstep scene in Paris, the arrival of Rinse France, and his progression with production. The aim is to enrich the quality and diversity of MRS and to create more complex knowledge graphs for use in recommendation systems. Putting aside for now the questions of privacy and ethics that arise from these latter approaches, user-generated data may lead to problematic categorisations, some of which may serve to homogenise diverse music genres (Cureño 2021). It might reflect users’ reproduction of certain keywords for their own commercial benefit .

It's easy to forget that Blinding Lights wasn't an immediate runaway success, debuting at Number 12 before climbing to Number 1 nine weeks later to become his first UK chart-topper. Another collaboration with Max Martin, Blinding Lights adds a hefty dose of crisp, '80s-inspired synths into The Weeknd's soundscape - drawing comparisons and Rockwell's Somebody's Watching Me. It already feels like a classic; and with almost 3 million UK chart sales , it's by far his biggest song to date. From the Akua Naru album, The Miner’s Canary, Boom Bap Back showcases the lyrical prowess of the current generation of female rappers. A related issue explored by critical internet studies is optimization.
You’d be hard pressed to find a DJ who captures the spirit of contemporary DJing quite like Ben Thomson. It sounds so cheesy, but when the World Cup's around, I'm obviously following. It's just the same way that everyone follows these basketball tournaments. “Loner” is a song written by Dominic Harrison Karl Michael, Matt Schwartz and Robbie McDade.

This song contains many words that aren’t exactly – how shall we put it –plucked from the Oxford English-Dictionary. In case you’re unfamiliar with Blue, its chorus’ lyrics are (word-for-word) ‘I’m blue / Da ba dee da ba di / Da ba dee da ba di / Da ba dee da ba di / Da ba dee da ba di / Da ba dee da ba di / Da ba dee da ba di / Da ba dee da ba di / I’m blue’… and repeat. Due to the obscure lyrics, people are keen to put their own spin on the song, which leads to some interesting interpretations. A common – and ingenious – take on the above lyrics is ‘I’m blue / Da ba dee da ba di / In Aberdeen, I will die’. Apologies if this paragraph made your head spin a little.  Many listeners think it’s hilarious to sing incorrectly ‘I saw her face, now I’m gonna leave her’.

Overall, ‘Bad Intentions’ shows the group’s emotional versatility, and we’re here for it. Three 6 Mafia could have filled this entire list by themselves. With one of the most extensive catalogues in music, much of their early work was dominated by schizophrenic, lo-fi beats which saw them pioneer a syrupy new wave laced with paranoia, Satanic rituals and murderous tendencies. ‘Favorite Scary Movie’ hears the Memphis crew, led by DJ Paul and Juicy J, rapidly trade verses over a slab of unsettling production that samples Wes Craven’s slasher classic Scream.
